Neighbours rewarded with Christmas cheer

We spread a little Christmas cheer this December and delivered tasty hampers to residents across Conwy and Gwynedd as part of our annual ‘Nominate a Neighbour’ campaign.

Residents were asked to nominate a wonderful neighbour who has helped them or their community in the last year.

The deserving neighbours were paid a surprise visit from Father Christmas, his reindeer and a team of festive helpers this December who presented the hampers full of goodies and some Christmas cheer.

So what did the winning neighbours do to get selected for a hamper? Reasons varied from helping neighbours when they’re ill to making sure that their community is clean, tidy and secure.

Here is a selection of photos from the delivery. You can see the full selection on our Facebook page.

And the winners are…

Thank you everyone who completed the survey for the Improving Customer Service project. Congratulations Eleri Roberts from Bangor who won the Samsung Galaxy Tablet. The winners for the £10 high street vouchers are Ceril Roberts from Llanrug, Wendy Davies from Old Colwyn and Rachel Lees from Colwyn Bay.

The feedback will be used to improve our customer service and we will soon be providing an update here on how the feedback has been used.

Christmas Nominate a Neighbour

North Wales Housing spread a little Christmas cheer and delivered tasty hampers to residents across Conwy and Gwynedd as part of their annual ‘Nominate a Neighbour’ initiative.

The festive campaign marked the start of the Christmas celebrations for North Wales Housing and has become a welcome date in the housing associations calendar.

Residents across Conwy and Gwynedd were invited to ‘Nominate a Neighbour’ who they believe deserves an early Christmas surprise and hamper full of goodies.

Reasons for nominations ranged from residents with issues themselves helping others with day to day activities they would otherwise struggle with, to those who suffered serious illness but were still there for their neighbours. Others showed outstanding support for other community members, helping launch a community initiative or project or have just been a really great neighbour.

The deserving neighbours were paid a surprise visit from North Wales Housing on Tuesday 17th December, when Father Christmas, his reindeer and a team of festive helpers rolled up in their sleigh to present the hampers and some Christmas cheer.

Paul Diggory, Chief Executive of North Wales Housing said:

“This is a brilliant campaign, tenants and staff are always keen to get involved. Every year we’re amazed by some of the nominations we get. Our tenants really do go above and beyond to help their neighbours, it’s great that there’s so much community spirit between our tenants.”

Push the button to access all Eirias

Two North Wales Housing tenants have enjoyed a day at the all-star Access All Eirias concert, by simply liking the organisations Facebook page.

North Wales Housing is encouraging tenants to use social media as a way of engaging with the organisation, helping them find out information and offering feedback or opinion. NWH recently ran a competition with two Access All Eirias tickets up for grabs – to be in with a chance, all tenants had to do was simply like the Facebook page or follow NWH on Twitter.

Helen and Robert Mawson of Menai Bridge liked NWH on Facebook and were the lucky winners. They had a brilliant day enjoying Welsh legend Tom Jones and other stars at the Colwyn Bay venue.

Iwan Evans of North Wales Housing said:

“Social media has become an incredibly important communication tool for us and we want as many of our tenants as possible to be engaged with us via their preferred social media platform. Competitions such as this let our tenants know we have a social media presence and helps drive traffic and interest towards us online.”

He added:

“We’re pleased Helen and Robert enjoyed their day and would encourage all of our tenants to look out for other similar initiatives throughout 2014.

Hats off to Y Gorlan Easter bunny’s

A group of residents at older person’s scheme, Y Gorlan in Bangor, have celebrated Easter in style, creating their own Easter bonnets that were judged and a winner chosen in a hotly contented competition!

Over seven residents created their own bonnets and were joined by Deputy Mayor Jean Forsyth who was invited along to judge the competition. Following a rigorous judging process Janice Gough was declared the winner and presented with a gift voucher.

Glenys Rowlands, Scheme Manger at Y Gorlan said:

“What a great day – all our residents went to so much effort with their bonnets and there was definitely an element of fun and competition in the air. This was the first event that our new residents committee organised and it’s been a huge success and defeinitley inspired confidence to plan more for the future.”

Residents and guests enjoyed an Easter dinner and drinks followed by a raffle with Easter egg prizes with the finale being the bonnet competition.

Glenys added:

“All of our residents took part and really embraced the day. All moneys raised from the raffle will go towards the residents fund and be used for future events. The residents are really enthused about planning since the launch of the committee and today is testament to their hard work and efforts!”

Ysgol Maelgwyn pupils bring festive sparkle to Plas Blodwel

Young pupils from Ysgol Maelgwyn in Llandudno Junction have taken part in an all-school Christmas competition to design and produce the best festive decoration.

Over 100 pupils took part in the Christmas Decoration challenge, set by North Wales Housing that saw a huge array of colourful designs produced and submitted for the competition. The offices of North Wales Housing sit almost opposite Ysgol Maelgwyn in Plas Blodwel, and the school challenge has been a great opportunity for the two to come together at Christmas.

Chief Executive of North Wales Housing, Paul Diggory, judged the decorations and was delighted with the results. He said:

“What a brilliant, imaginative and creative bunch of decorations! I am incredibly impressed by the ideas submitted, making it really difficult to choose a winning four.”

Four children from four different age groups were chosen and presented with gift tokens.

Paul added:

“Congratulations to the winners whose decorations will now sit amongst all other Ysgol Maelgwyn colourful trinkets on our tree at the head office.”

The judging event was held as part of the school’s annual Christmas Fayre and representatives from North Wales Housing joined staff, pupils, parents and even reindeer during the afternoon that for many marked the start of the festive season.
