NWH Community Fund Backs Conwy Connect Hygiene Training

Thanks to a successful application to our Community Fund, Conwy Connect has delivered engaging and educational hygiene and first aid training sessions for its members.

Conwy Connect, established in 1997, is a local organisation dedicated to promoting the rights of people with a learning disability. Their mission is to ensure individuals have equality of choice and opportunity in the communities where they live.

Recently, members expressed an interest in learning more about basic hygiene, infection prevention, particularly in relation to food preparation, and basic first aid. Many were motivated by a greater awareness of hygiene following the COVID-19 pandemic and were keen to better understand how to look after themselves and others.

To support this, Conwy Connect applied to the North Wales Housing Community Fund, which helps support projects that make a difference in communities across Conwy, Denbighshire, Gwynedd, and Ynys Môn. Their application was successful, allowing them to organise interactive training sessions with a creative twist.

Using UV light and glowing hand gel, participants were able to visualise how germs spread through common interactions like shaking hands, high-fiving, or handling objects. The group then practised effective handwashing techniques, reinforcing the learning in a memorable and fun way.

What did participants think?

Feedback from the sessions was overwhelmingly positive:

“It was fun and easy to understand.”
“I liked the practical activities and how we got to see how germs spread.”
“The slideshow had lots of pictures, and any difficult words were explained well.”

The success of these sessions highlights how creative, accessible learning can build confidence and life skills—something Conwy Connect is passionate about delivering.

We’re proud to have supported this project through our Community Fund, which is open to community groups and organisations making a difference in North Wales.
