New Residents Move into Eco-Friendly Homes at Llain y Pebyll, Bethesda

Residents have started moving into brand-new homes at Llain y Pebyll, Bethesda, marking a significant step forward in modern, sustainable living. Developed using an innovative timber frame system, the properties are clad with slate and cedar to reflect the natural beauty of the local landscape.

The development consists of seven homes in total—five two-bedroom bungalows designed for three people and two one-bedroom flats for two people. All homes are social rent properties designated for older persons, ensuring a safe, comfortable, and supportive living environment.

These homes are built with cutting-edge energy efficiency features, including Mechanical Ventilation Heat Recovery and Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHP). These systems extract heat from the outside air—even in freezing temperatures—and transfer it inside. Paired with solar PV panels, they significantly reduce the properties’ demand on the power grid, ensuring lower energy costs and a smaller carbon footprint.

For Melanie, one of the first residents to move in, the new bungalow is nothing short of life-changing.

“I’ve been stuck in the same room for the last 7 years without being able to go downstairs to watch TV or cook due to being in a wheelchair. This bungalow is absolutely perfect for us. It’s modern and fantastic. This will change our lives dramatically,” she shared.

“North Wales Housing has made the process seamless, helping us every step of the way. Nothing has been too much trouble for Rowena, our housing officer—she’s been amazing. We’ve been residents of North Wales Housing for the last 15 years, and our experience has been extremely positive.”

Lauren Eaton-Jones, Assistant Director for Development at North Wales Housing, said:

“We are thrilled to see residents settling into their new homes at Llain y Pebyll. These properties not only offer modern, comfortable living spaces but also incorporate sustainable technologies that benefit both the residents and the environment. It’s fantastic to see how these homes are already making a positive impact on people’s lives.”

The Llain y Pebyll development showcases how thoughtful design and sustainable building practices can come together to create homes that are not only beautiful but also energy-efficient and accessible for all.
