North Wales Housing has held its AGM for 2014, using this year’s annual event to help mark the associations 40th birthday.
Held at Glasdir, Llanrwst, the ’40th anniversary special’ focused on the continuing importance of social housing with turns from inspirational guest speakers both of whom are pioneering figures within the sector.
Tom Murtha and Michala Rudman rounded off the formal events and shared their thoughts, experience and opinions on social housing and the importance it can have in shaping the lives of individuals and the communities in which they live.
Michala is the CIH Cymru Board Lead for Learning and Development and was instrumental in launching the Council Homes Chat campaign to challenge the negative media image of social housing.
Tom Murtha is the Chair of HACT and Chief Executive of 32,000 home housing and care group Midland Heart. As a former student activist who experienced homelessness as a teenager, Tom has been a prime mover in the SHOUT campaign – social housing under threat – which was officially launched in June.
Friends, staff, partners and stakeholders of North Walesa Housing gathered for the event which helped mark the 40th year with a short film and presentation including one of the associations founding board members, Alice Robinson.
Paul Diggory, Chief Executive of North Wales Housing said:
It’s great to be able to celebrate our 40th birthday at the AGM and with a strong nod to the past, we also looked at the issues affecting us today and the importance of good quality housing and the impact it has.”
